Rip Curl Pro 2017
The 2017 Rip Curl Pro delivered some amazing waves this year. Not as big or wild as the 2016 event, in fact the opposite. Smaller clean surf saw many days of great competition. Some of the best mornings were held at the Bells Bowl and moving to the nearby Winki break. The cliffs provided and protected spot from the wind and with sunshine about we saw some amazing waves roll through. I was privileged to do some work for Coastal Watch during the event for a small project they did were doing with Cooper Chapman and Simon Anderson. The concept being that Cooper was given a replica board of Simon’s which he won Bells on in 1981. It was great to see classic designs be ridden and ridden well by one of Australia’s best up and coming young surfers.
“ This one of my favorite events to be at. There is definitely something special about this event. So much history and heritage along this stretch of beach. The only place I am as happy in the water as out watching. ”
